The Adventures of Miel Miaow – Tree Climbing

Miel Miaow our half Siamese half tabby cat is adventurous and fearless, yesterday she brought me a present, a baby snake, how thoughtful considering she knows I hate them. The day before she decided that she wanted a better view of the garden and found the ideal lookout place.

Can you spot her?
From here she could Survey her land and keep an eye on us gardening.
Just one problem, how to get down, answere miaow loudly for ages and someone will rescue you.
Where will she pop up next?

Miel Miaow at the top of the tree!

Our Miel Miaow likes nothing more than scaling the heights… of trees, she isn’t scared of heights in fact she enjoys finding a nice branch and surveying the land from it, oh yes and if a little bird happens to pop by she will oblige and stalk it, walking the tightrope of thing branches with panache.

She also has a new favourite spot on tera firm as well, on a nice big stone well padded with moss so nice and comfy, from here she can survey her land and watch for mice.

She even invites Barnaby Pickles over for a look too, if she’s in the mood for doggy company.

Barnaby Pickles visits Rabasten

After our trip to Rabasten the other week we thought Barnaby Pickles would enjoy a swim in the river, so we took him along last Wednesday, which was a very hot day and actually he wasn’t that fussed, in fact we had to coax him into the water.

He spent more time sniffing around the river bank and looking to see what was going on around him, which wasn’t much.

Oh well we had a nice picnic and enjoyed the sunshine.

Miss Mischief

Unlike Barnaby Pickles Miss Miel Miaow is not camera shy, far from it she will always oblige and give you a stare for the camera.

Having hunted for her for ages the other day i found her sound asleep in an Ikea bag on top of lots of boxes in our kitchen. She’s obviously a thrifty cat choosing to sleep in an Ikea bag there were lots to choose from, Sainsbury’s, Intermarche, Eleclerc etc

A few of their favourite things…..

Theres nothing Barnaby Pickles likes better than sniffing, especially when he finds a hole in the ground, after calling him for a few minutes i discovered why he wasn’t respodning he had his head down a hole snorting and grunting, the result a very dirty snout but one happy Pickle.

Our Princess Miel Miaow on the other hand has more refined taste and would much rather spend her time amongst the Christmas Presents, glitter, sparkle and bows are a few of her favourite things.

Introducing “Miel” our new family member

So, as you already know from previous posts, Kev hates mice, and we are living in the country and winter is upon us, so we’ve had visitors from the fields. Barnaby Pickles has earned his stripes as mouse hunter extraordinaire whilst in the fields. But apparently the best deterrent is a pussy cat – even the scent of a cat is enough to keep the critters away, or so we have been told by all the neighbours.

We aren’t really pussy people [no snide remarks boys, thank you] but we want a menagerie of furry friends now that we have the space, so our search for the perfect pussy began a few weeks ago. Our estate agent and now very good friend, Laurette, and her daughter Alex, volunteered to find one or maybe two for us. Our first foray wasn’t that successful the candidates were  two stray cats that had been taken in by a cat loving rescuer who lived just behind Laurette in Corde Sur Ciel. The kittens had been found wandering around the streets barely two months old. Bless them; they were lucky to be taken in by very kind surrogate parents who are experts in domesticating kittens born to feral cats.

I have to say Kev hasn’t been keen on the idea but has resigned himself that this is the best way to keep the souris [mice] away and our visit to the two feral kittens didn’t really do it for him. Mind you even i was a bit surprised how wild they were. We were assured that they would calm down and they even introduced us to a kitten that was a few months down the line of domestication, and as convincing as she was we both felt they were too much for newbie cat lovers.

A few weeks later, we received a call from Alex. She had heard of a stray cat that had been found, part Siamese and part pick n mix, she had been checked out by the vet and given the all clear. Also after the vet visit it came to light that she wasn’t a stray after all, she was the kitten of a house cat but had escaped and was found roaming the streets of Corde. So on Thursday we went along to see her, Rachel accompanied as she did when we got Barnaby and as soon as we saw her we fell in love and as per our visit to see Barnaby, we brought her home.

So now the fun begins. We have to acclimatise her to the house and more importantly we have to acclimatise both of them to each other. So far so good, ill let you know how its going later this week, wish us luck.

Here are a few snapshots of Miel
